It’s a new summer!

Ok, it’s a little after summer started, but it’s (by my calculation) 5 months and 25 days until David’s Birthday and I want to be able to run a half marathon by that time.

So, I’ve been happily working out for a couple of weeks now and the Texan sun is brutal. I figure that I have to get some mechanics down before I can get real serious about running again. Toward that end, I’ve spoken with a friend, Bo, who ran the Chicago marathon about running fundamentals and decided to reevaluate my form. This dude stopped running after he suffered a couple stress fractures and learned that his legs aren’t balanced. Bo was DONE running. Until recently…

I’ll have to post the name of the video he was given by some York High School running coaches that transformed his running style. Now, Bo is back to an easy 5 miles a day.

So, I’ll keep you updated on the new style, the midsole running strike, and keep better track of my progress.

FYI: The site is going to open up a forum for general discussion. I’ve been remiss in doing so but I really want to turn our site into more of a lifestyle in which others can participate rather than just a cool (and it is cool) running journal.

So, great work out there Dave, and there are changes coming.

I’m on vacation in San Diego, California and ran on Mission Bay. It was 0600 and overcast skies, but a cool 70 degrees. We stayed at the Catamaran Spa which has a sister hotel 2 miles away, Perfect I thought! 4 miles in 45:00.

June 20

Just 2 miles today and  exerted a respectable amount of energy in spite of the short distance. After that I did 2 slow sets of abs (lower, upper and obliques) and 30 minutes of stretching. I feel great!

Wow,  it has been a long break from running, I felt it today. I ran at Braidwood Rec. Club and the course was littered with hills and I felt every one. 3 miles on a beautiful path with plenty of shade. I have been on vacation since the 11th of June (hence the long break) and due to go to Arizona/California on the 22nd. I am bringing my running shoes and power-band along with my P90X cds

Had to dig deep for this run, 6 miles at a snail pace. It was my long run day so I didn’t go for time. 1:18

June 3

Ran 4 miles today, the first two miles were great, had lots of energy and a decent pace at 10:00 and 10:30 respectively, my third mile was brutal as I ran low on energy and my right calf tendon was a little sore, anyway I finished the last mile with some GP’s and a strong sprint to the line. 46:15

Completed a full set of 1600’s, I am convinced that this is key to any exercise program. I feel so tired after the 400m sprint that I almost quit again, but gave myself a minute to recover and finished the workout. It wasn’t pretty and I couldn’t sprint every inch, but I gave it a good effort. My eating has been sloppy lately, as I have consumed large quanities of chocolate and bite-sized snickers. I can’t explain it and hope that exercise will convict me.

Ran 4 miles in 46:15, had to walk 10 paces after I got to the top of the second hill. I love running and feel I will reap the true benifits from my running style when I lose 30-40 more pounds. I hope my next run is good, I’m planning a 6 miler (my long day) tomorrow or Sunday. I over indulged in a container of pasta, 3 cloves of raw garlic, one bottle of water and one cup of olive juice. I’m trying to carb-load 12-24 hours before any run over 3-4 miles.

Ran a warm-up mile and then attempted to do some 1600’s. The mile was great, it was just over 10:00 and I worked my way up to 400m on my sprints. (which was 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m) After that I had nothing left to give, but it is a good reference point that I can improve upon. Next Monday I will try to beat it. I really need to keep my sprint days consistent especially cause the benefits trickle down to all other areas of fitness. IE muscle building, lactic threshold etc
